HC Deb 15 March 1974 vol 870 cc5-6W
Mr. Biffen

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the current situation concerning the application of EEC regulations to New York dressed poultry; and what further representations are intended by the Government.

Mr. Buchan

Under the present terms of Directive 71/118 the trade in New York dressed poultry must come to an end by February 1976. The Commission has proposed a deferment until February 1980, but this concerns only the need for evisceration immediately after slaughter. We are considering what further representations are necessary.

Mr. Body

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the approximate number of turkeys sold in the United Kingdom in 1973 and dressed in a way that would be contrary to EEC Directive 118.

Mr. Buchan

The information is not available which would enable such an estimate to be made.
