HC Deb 15 March 1974 vol 870 cc10-1W
Mr. Tyler

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will withhold sanction for the expenditure of any further public money on the proposed oil-fired generating station at Inswork Point, Cornwall, until an updated and independent review of fuel availability and cost has been completed, including the implications of a change of fuel for local employment, impact on the environment and danger to neighbouring population centres.

Mr. Varley

Consent with planning permission has been given for this station. The CEGB may, subject to the conditions of this consent, undertake expenditure on preliminary works only. The station itself may not be ordered without my approval, and the social and economic factors mentioned by the hon. Member will be amongst those I shall take into account.
