HC Deb 14 March 1974 vol 870 cc3-4W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what he proposes to do to stabilise interest rates.

Mr. Dell

Interest rates will in the future as in the past have to be responsive to changes in domestic and external conditions. But the supplementary scheme for credit control introduced on 17th December should help to stabilise short-term rates, which are usually more volatile than long-term rates.
