HC Deb 28 June 1974 vol 875 cc62-3W
Mr. Normanton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what measures he proposes to adopt when dealing with restrictions on rents and tenancies of private property where the owner of the property lets it during his own absence abroad on temporary posting from a British company.

Mr. Freeson

Under the provisions of the Rent Act 1968, an owner-occupier who lets his home on a regulated tenancy while he himself is absent has an absolute right to repossession when he wishes to reoccupy his home, if he has complied with the appropriate notice procedure. The Rent Bill applies these provisions to new lettings on furnished tenancies and makes transitional provisions for existing furnished lettings by absentee owner-occupiers. Rents under such lettings will be subject to regulation.
