Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Industry, of the 45 LNG tankers on order, how many are being built in (a) British yards, (b) other European countries, (c) the USA, and (d) Japan.

Mr. Meacher

According to the latest published information 50 LNG tankers were on order as at 30th April 1974. Of these none was being built in the United Kingdom, 27 were being built in other European countries, 15 in the USA and eight in Japan.

asked the Secretary of State for Industry, of the 30 LPG tankers on order, how many are being built in British yards.

According to the latest published information, 48 LPG tankers were on order at 30th April 1974. Only one of these is being built in the United Kingdom.

asked the Secretary of State for Industry, of the 21 LNG tankers in service, how many are registered under the British flag; and if he will name the ships, giving their country of registration.

Eight LNG—methane—tankers are registered under the British flag. They are:

"Gadila" "Melrose"
"Gadinia" "Methane Princess"
"Gari" "Methane Progress"
"Heriot" "Norman Lady"

According to published sources other LNG tankers, with country of registry, are:

"Arctic Tokyo" Liberia
"Descartes" France
"Esso Brega" Italy
"Esso Liguria" Italy
"Esso Portovenere" Italy
"Euclides" Liberia
"Hassi R'Mel" Algeria
"Jules Verne" France
"Laieta" Spain
"Polar Alaska" Liberia
"Tellier" France
"Venator" Italy
