HL Deb 28 June 1974 vol 352 cc1763-4WA
LORD MERRIVALE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

With reference to the investigations and the Report of Sir William Halcrow and Partners (Consulting Engineers) on the "Protection and Development of the East Coast of Gibraltar for Tourism" dated July, 1968 (following the Project Report instructions received from the City Council of Gibraltar), whether they support any of the three main developments proposed and in particular the eastern beach development planned to run southwards from an eastward runway extension.

LORD GORONWY-ROBERTS

The consultants concerned were commissioned by and reported to the Gibraltar City Council, before that body was abolished by the Gibraltar (Constitution) Order in Council,1969. Neither the Gibraltar nor the United Kingdom Governments were approached for their views on or assistance towards the projects mentioned in that Report, which would remain in the first instance for the Gibraltar Government to consider in the context of their development programme.
