§ 23. Mr. Goodhartasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what action he is taking to strengthen the security forces in Northern Ireland.
§ Mr. OrmeA major recruiting campaign is being undertaken by the Police Authority and the Chief Constable to strengthen the RUC. We plan to keep in Northern Ireland the number of troops required to deal with the security situation at any particular time and to provide at short notice any temporary reinforcements which may be needed.
