§ Mr. Skeetasked the Secretary of State for Energy, of the total number of production platforms on order or under construction and required for North Sea oil and gas development, if he will indicate the number to be or being built in the United Kingdom, giving the location of the yards, in Scandinavia and elsewhere in Europe, respectively.
§ Mr. StrangI am informed that 28 major oil and gas production platforms are under construction or on order, 13 of them in the United Kingdom at the yards located at Graythorp, Methil, Nigg Bay, Ardyne Point and Ardersier. Full details of overseas sites are not available but 521W these include sites at Cherbourg and Rotterdam and at Stavanger and Andalsness in Norway. Future platform requirements depend on the number and extent of new discoveries but substantial further orders for platforms for proven fields are expected this year and next.
