540WA call for assistance for developing countries in respect of fertilisers is contained in ECOSOC Resolution 1836(LVI), which invites contribution to a fertiliser pool or cash for the purchase of fertilisers. This will be considered in relation to available resources and other initiatives now under discussion internationally.
Her Majesty's Government have also recently been asked to explore the possibility of helping to obtain fertilisers for the Windward Islands banana industry and I am looking into this.
§ Mr. Woofasked the Minister of Overseas Development what amount of Government financial overseas aid is being allocated to the developing countries to assist in the emergency operation launched at the United Nations General Assembly's special session on raw materials.
§ Mrs. HartWe have been discussing this matter with other members of the European Community and, as I have said in reply to another Question from my hon. Friend, the Council of Ministers of the Community has now decided to offer up to $500 million to assist in the emergency operation on the understanding that other donors, including the oil producers, are willing to make commensurate contributions. We would provide our share of the amount offered.
