asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he intends to continue the payment of specific grants under the Transport Act 1968 for support of particular British Rail services that are considered socially necessary.

asked the Secretary of State for the Environ ment how many miles of new railway track have been constructed in the United Kingdom in the past 12 months.

Figures for the Railways Board are not readily available. No new track has been constructed by the London Transport Executive or the passenger transport executives.
