HC Deb 25 June 1974 vol 875 cc414-5W
Mr. Greville Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what are the dates of the traditional wakes weeks and holiday weeks in each of Great Britain's major cities.

Mr. Booth

There is no established pattern of traditional holiday weeks in most major cities. In Scotland and Yorkshire the main summer holiday is generally observed in the following cities on the dates shown:

  • Edinburgh, 1st-12th July.
  • Glasgow, 15th-26th July.
  • Leeds, 22nd July to 9th August.
  • Bradford, 12th-23rd August.
  • Sheffield, 29th July to 9th August.
  • Halifax, lst-14th July.

There is no similar pattern in the other major cities.
