HC Deb 25 June 1974 vol 875 c396W
49. Mr. Hooley

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what postgraduate awards or research grants have been made from funding originating in his Department for the study of poverty law; and in which institutions these were tenable.

Mr. Gerry Fowler

The Social Science Research Council, which is funded by my Department, has made 40 postgraduate awards and eight research grants since 1972 in the general area of social sciences and the law, and with the Rowntree Memorial Trust has recently established a Centre for Socio-Legal Studies. Many interpretations are possible of how much of this research could specifically be ascribed to the study of poverty law: the hon. Member may obtain details of the subjects of these studies and the institutions in which they are conducted direct from the council.
