HC Deb 25 June 1974 vol 875 c392W
30. Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will issue guidance to local education authorities on the need for flexibility in the age of transfer from primary to comprehensive schools in order not to retard the progress of exceptionally intelligent children.

Mr. Prentice

All children should have the opportunity to develop their potential to the full. I would expect local education authorities to try to meet the individual needs of all pupils and the wishes of their parents in administering their transfer arrangements. I do not, however, think that detailed guidance from me is necessary.
