§ Mr. Merlyn ReesSupplementary benefits amounting to almost £31 million were paid in Northern Ireland in 1973. On 21st November 1973, 28,433 families were receiving supplementary benefit, with or without a national insurance benefit; the average weekly amount of supplementary benefit per family was £17.71.
