HL Deb 24 June 1974 vol 352 c1294WA
LORD MERRIVALE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

In view of their declared policy of bringing shipbuilding into public ownership "to make it more efficient and to help rather than hinder exports", what plans they have in mind to increase this country's share of shipping exports— to Greece for instance—bearing in mind that Greek shipowners alone had on March 1 last over 300 vessels (aggregating 300 million tons) being built or on order around the world.

LORD BESWICK

A more efficient and therefore more competitive industry will provide a sound basis for increasing the United Kingdom share of the world market for ships.
