asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will take steps to ensure that all oil exploration and exploitation companies notify him of obstacles and equipment abandoned on the sea bed so that Scottish fishermen can be warned of their position; and if he will give notification of the position of these obstacles in Decca readings as well as in longitude and latitude.

my Department, together with the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries for Scotland and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, maintains liaison with the United Kingdom offshore operators to minimise the possibility of damage to fishing gear from oil drilling and associated operations. The Dumping at Sea Bill, introduced by my right hon. Friend the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, has now completed its passage through Parliament and will provide statutory control over the dumping of wastes from ships and marine structures loaded in the United Kingdom.
