HC Deb 24 June 1974 vol 875 c321W
Mr. Loveridge

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what tests have been made to check on the comparative safety factors involved between one type of nuclear power station and another on the radioactive and other effects that might result from the explosion of terrorist bombs in the power plant; and if he will ensure that such studies are completed before any final decisions are reached for future policy.

Mr. Eadie

All types of power reactor are of necessity contained in massive concrete shields for radiation protection and are designed to shut down automatically under all conceivable faults or failures. These facilities provide protection against acts of sabotage: additional security precautions are common to all power reactor types.
