HC Deb 24 June 1974 vol 875 c355W
Mr. David Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) whether he can now say when he will make the announcement about the opening of Motorway M3 which he told the hon. Member for Basingstoke on 6th May would be made shortly;

(2) how many miles of the Motorway M3 are lying idle between Lightwater and Sunbury;

(3) whether the building of Motorway M3 is now complete, but may not open until he gives his authority;

(4) what is the value of public money invested in the completed but unopened section of the Motorway M3 between Lightwater and Sunbury; and on the basis of standard calculations and the cost of borrowing, how much this investment could be said to be costing the public purse.

Mr. Carmichael

The hon. Member will have already received a copy of our Press notice issued on 19th June announcing that the opening of the M3 Lightwater to Sunbury section will take place on 11th July.
