Sir Raymond Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many persons are employed in defence establishments in the areas of the county of South Glamorgan and of the Vale of Glamorgan District Council, respectively; and what are the approximate amounts paid annually to them in salaries and wages in the two areas, respectively.

At 1st April, 1974 there were 2,768 members of the Armed Forces and 1,822 civilians serving in the county of South Glamorgan and of these 2,689 Service men and 1,069 civilians were serving in the Vale of Glamorgan. The amount paid annually to these personnel is about £10 million, of which about £8.5 million is in respect of those employed in the Vale of Glamorgan.
