HC Deb 20 June 1974 vol 875 c234W
Mr. Gurden

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what is the time normally set for pelican pedestrian crossings on stop and caution lights for traffic;

(2) what interval was permitted for pedestrians to cross the pelican crossing at Coteridge, King's Norton, Birminghan, when its installation was agreed.

Mr. Carmichael

There is no set time because signal phases are varied to suit individual site requirements. Within the advice recently issued to local authorities the timings can range from 5–10 seconds for the stop signal and from 7–18 seconds for the flashing amber signal. I am writing to the hon. Member about the four Pelican crossings at Coteridge.
