HC Deb 20 June 1974 vol 875 cc246-7W
Mr. McGuire

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will give details about the number of times in the past 10 years when her Department has provided the money to build a new hospital or to improve an existing one in cases where the regional health authority responsible had not made provision for such a project in its capital expenditure programme, giving in each case: (1) the name of the hospital, the nearest town and the name of the health authority, (2) the reasons for this extra aid, (3) the planned cost and the real costs, and (4) the number of beds and other medical services provided.

Dr. Owen

To provide a full reply would involve a great deal of work for health authorities which I am anxious to spare them at present. I am writing to my hon. Friend to discover whether I can be of assistance in ways which would avoid this.
