§ Mr. Churchillasked the Secretary of State for Social Services when the vehicle allowance of severely disabled war pensioners was last increased; and by what percentage in real terms the allowance has declined in value compared to the increase in fuel costs over the same period.
§ Mr. Alfred MorrisThe quarterly allowance payable to disabled people with cars from the Department was last increased in 1965. It has never been directly related to the cost of maintaining a car, which can vary enormously; nor is it intended as a contribution towards the cost of fuel. This is one of the aspects of the vehicle service that I am currently reviewing in the light of Lady Sharp's report.
