HC Deb 20 June 1974 vol 875 c201W
49. Miss Fookes

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many farming establishments exist using the battery cage system; and how often each is the subject of a routine inspection by a member of the State Veterinary Service.

Mr. Buchan

We estimate the number in Great Britain to be between 40,000 and 50,000. Welfare inspections are made on a random rather than a routine basis. Complaints are always investigated.
