HL Deb 19 June 1974 vol 352 c1030WA
LORD AMULREE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many uniformed park keepers are now employed in the Royal Parks of London.

LORD GARNSWORTHY

Of the ten Royal Parks and Gardens under the management of my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for the Environment nine are policed by park keepers. There are 162 staff in post, though measures are being taken to increase the number to 180. Hyde Park is policed under contract by the Metropolitan Police, and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, is the responsibility of my right honourable friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food. At Kew, there are 37 staff in post and vacancies for a further 4.

House adjourned at twelve minutes before nine o'clock.
