HC Deb 19 June 1974 vol 875 c174W
Dr. Winstanley

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection if, in the interests of consumer protection, she will make the services of her Department available to the television companies in their negotiations with the Football League in its claim for a 300 per cent. increase in fees for the televising of football matches, in an effort to minimise the inflationary effect of any new agreement.

Mr. Maclennan

The price code is, of course, intended to curb the inflationary effect of all price increases. The question whether a price increase meets the requirements of the code is one for the Price Commission, which is always ready to consider any such matter brought before it.
