HC Deb 19 June 1974 vol 875 c168W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Industry, in respect of the contracts with Chile cancelled by Rolls-Royce at the request of the Government, how long the contracts had to run; and what was the estimated outstanding value of the contracts.

Mr. Benn

The contract did not run for a stated period. Its value depended on the work required by the Chileans under it; this year the company was expecting about £400,000 of work.

Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Industry why he is not paying compensation to Rolls-Royce in respect of its contracts with Chile which it cancelled at the request of the Government.

Mr. Benn

The Government's request carries with it no obligation to pay compensation.
