HC Deb 19 June 1974 vol 875 c186W
Mr. Donald Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what effect he estimates membership of the EEC has had on Great Britain's trade with Australia and New Zealand.

Mr. Deakins

It is not possible, at this early stage in the transitional period, to isolate or quantify the effect of EEC membership from other influences on trade patterns, such as exchange and commodity price movements. But it can be assumed that, insofar as tariff changes affect trade, EEC membership will be adverse.
