HC Deb 18 June 1974 vol 875 cc133-4W
Mr. Redmond

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what is her policy with regard to sponsoring fellowships for special studies from developing countries with the Commonwealth.

Mr. William Price

A number of training institutions in the United Kingdom are given support from aid funds in order to provide special training which could not otherwise be made available. Such courses cover a wide range of subjects. Training awards are made under various regional technical assistance programmes, the Overseas Students Fees Award Scheme, the Commonwealth Education Fellowship Scheme, and the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan. For the current financial year, over £12 million is available from the aid programme for these purposes, of which some £8 million is for the Commonwealth developing countries.
