§ Dr. SummerskillThe lump sum payable on retirement to prison officers is governed by the Principal Civil Service Superannuation Scheme and my right hon. Friend has no authority to depart from its provisions. No lump sum is payable on retirement to police officers, who receive a maximum pension of two-thirds of pay, compared with a maximum pension of half pay, together with a lump sum, under the Civil Service scheme.
