asked the Secretary of State for Industry what is the figure of compensation paid in the last financial year to private individuals claiming damage to parcels in transit.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

I am told by the Post Office that information in the form requested is not available, but that it paid a total of £34,419 in 1973–74 in compensation for damaged parcels.
