§ Mr. Loveridgeasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will tabulate the relative rates of pay, and overtime when appropriate, for assistant catering officers and assistant cooks in hospitals in the North-East Thames Health Region; and if she will also outline the respective responsibilities and duties normally involved in the two posts.
§ Dr. OwenThe information is as follows:
Assistant Catering Officer—
- £1,368-£1,638 per annum (salary under review).
Assistant Cook—
- £23.96 per week (£1,246 pa) men;
- £22.50 per week (£1,170 pa) women.
In addition both currently receive a cost of living threshold payment and if 97W appropriate a London allowance. Assistant catering officers have no fixed hours. Assistant cooks work a 40-hour week with overtime during the week at 1⅓plain time for the first two hours and 1½ plain time thereafter; and 1½ plain time on Saturdays and double plain time on Sundays.
The assistant catering officer normally provides assistance for a catering officer responsible for the catering services of a hospital, and in some cases he may be directly responsible to a catering manager for the catering services of a small hospital. An assistant cook assists in the preparation, cooking and serving of food.
