HC Deb 14 June 1974 vol 874 cc659-60W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what he estimates to be the yield in a full year from the excise duty on motor fuel, and from the motor vehicle tax, respectively, in respect of duty paid in England and Wales.

Dr. Gilbert

The yield in 1974-75 from vehicle excise duty is estimated to be £455 million for England and £25 million for Wales. The yield of the hydrocarbon oil duties on motor fuel is estimated to be £1,465 million for the United Kingdom. I regret that separate estimates for England and Wales have not been made.

Mr. Freud

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what additional annual revenue would be produced by an increase of lp on the duty charged on a gallon of petrol.

Dr. Gilbert

An increase in duty of lp on a gallon of petrol and derv would produce about £58 million additional annual revenue.
