HC Deb 14 June 1974 vol 874 c669W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he will now recommend the establishment of a Royal Commission to review and report on the level of wages paid by British-owned firms to their locally recruited employees in former British colonies and in particular to compare such wages with those being paid by British-owned firms in the Republic of South Africa.

Mr. Shore

No. The Fifth Report of the Expenditure Committee on the wages and conditions of African workers employed by British firms in South Africa recognised that South Africa was a special case. I agree with this view.
