HC Deb 13 June 1974 vol 874 c619W
Mr. Farr

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will issue a circular to local authorities engaged in or authorising road works designed to bring it about that warning notices to drivers are not left in position overnight or at weekends especially when they are not then applicable and the road is clear.

Mr. Carmichael

Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual, a comprehensive code of practice for signing, guarding and lighting of road works, will be published at the end of this month. Among other things this amplifies existing guidance on the need for adjustment of signs as circumstances alter—for example, overnight and at weekends. A copy of the manual will be sent to every highway authority.
