HC Deb 13 June 1974 vol 874 cc629-30W
Mr. Hooley

asked the Minister of Overseas Development how many students from Namibia are currently studying in the United Kingdom with assistance from United Kingdom funds; and what scholarships or other help is being offered to Namibian students for the academic year 1974–75.

Mrs. Hart

United Kingdom funds do not directly support any Namibian students at present, and no such awards are currently on offer for future years. The United Kingdom does, however, contribute to the United Nations Educational and Training Programme for South Africa, which, according to its report published in April 1974, supported 81 Namibian students in 1972–73. One of these students was in the United Kingdom, the rest being mainly in India, Kenya and the USA.

Mr. Hooley

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what aid is currently being given by the United Kingdom to Namibia.

Mrs. Hart

There is no United Kingdom Government aid programme for Namibia.
