Mr. Steen

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if, in awarding future contracts for the disposal of waste collected from the House of Commons, he will specify that the waste should be recycled.

4. Mr. Charles R. Morris

Details of disposal procedures for various classes of waste are as follows:

.Confidential waste (Paper)

Taken personally by MP's or their secretaries to DWO waste disposal centre (situated in Inner Court yard) and burnt by PSA employee supervised by MP or secretary.

Ordinary waste paper

Collected by PSA Supplies Division and shredded at its depot in SE7, then sold to the trade.

Soiled waste

Collected from dining clubs, courtyards, etc. and removed to tip by PSA contractor.

Waste building materials

Waste building material with a "scrap" value is sold.

It will be noted from above that waste is recycled where possible.
