HC Deb 12 June 1974 vol 874 c565W
Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) whether he will make a statement about the latest agreements with Argentina concerning the Falkland Islands;

(2) to what extent Her Majesty's sovereignty of the Falkland Islands and their Dependencies was raised and discussed during the negotiation of the latest agreements with Argentina affecting the territory and any talks connected with those negotiations.

Miss Joan Lestor

The latest agreements concluded with Argentina were those concerning the construction and operation by the Argentine Government of a temporary aerodrome in the Falkland Islands, and the establishment and provision by the Argentine Government of a regular air service between the Falkland Islands and the Argentine mainland, which came into force on 2nd May 1972 and 24th October 1972 respectively. The texts of the agreements were presented to Parliament as Command Papers 5027 and 5203. The position of Her Majesty's Government with regard to sovereignty over the Falkland Islands is fully protected by the texts of the agreements.
