HC Deb 11 June 1974 vol 874 cc531-2W
Mr. Frank Allaun

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the latest estimated cost submitted to him, including provision under the Land Compensation Act, to enable the completion by 1984 of the South East Lancashire and North East Cheshire Transportation Plan for 1984; what plans there are to extend the completion date to the year 2000; or whether it is intended to carry out a reappraisal of the whole plan.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

We expect to receive estimates from the Greater Manchester Council in July as part of its application for transport supplementary grant. We shall decide in the autumn, in the context of wider Government decisions on public expenditure, how much of Greater Manchester's estimates to accept for grant in 1975–76. Meanwhile we have indicated to it the broad orders of magnitude likely to be acceptable in current economic and financial circumstances. It will be for the Greater Manchester Council to consider the longer-term phasing of its programme and whether any reappraisal of its plan is necessary.
