§ Mr. Robert SheldonEmployment agencies are only used exceptionally and rarely for the recruitment of permanent civil servants, and the number involved in the inner and outer London pay area is negligible. For temporary staff—that is, staff whose services are hired through an agency—the numbers fluctuate daily according to the need. The number of agency draughts men has been falling for the past two years, though recruitment of permanent staff in this area is still very difficult. Representative figures in the main categories, collected as a result of inquiries carried out last month, are shown below. Industrial staff numbers have not been included.
