HC Deb 11 June 1974 vol 874 c537W
Mr. Terry Walker

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will make a statement on Her Majesty's Government's policy toward the proposed talks on pay between the Post Office and the Post Office unions.

Mr. Benn

I advised the Post Office and the unions on 4th June that we can now agree that negotiations should proceed between them to reach an agreement on pay increases effective as from the end of statutory pay controls, to restore the relative position of the lower-paid staff. The Post Office is also to propose any increases on tariffs needed to meet the financial consequences of the pay agreement.
