asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many manual workers receive less than the figure of average weekly earnings for this group and how many manual workers receive more than this average figure, calculated to the most recent convenient date.

Mr. Booth

The New Earnings Survey shows that, among full-time manual adults whose pay for the survey reference period was not affected by absence, the gross weekly earnings of about 56 per cent. of both men and women were below the corresponding average.
