HC Deb 11 June 1974 vol 874 cc497-8W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he is aware of the hardship caused by the withdrawal of grants for commercial aircrew training; what alternative financial resources are available for such training; if he will consider introducing new methods of sup- port for such training; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Harold Walker

The Manpower Services Commission informs me that responsibility for commercial aircrew training lies with the employers concerned and with the Air Transport and Travel Industry Training Board, and I understand that these organizations consider the financial arrangements for support to be adequate.

Financial support under the Training Opportunities Scheme was provided between August and November 1972 in a strictly limited number of cases where there were good opportunities of employment. This support was withdrawn following advice from the ITB and BALPA that prospects of employment had deteriorated.

No new methods of support for this training are considered necessary.
