HC Deb 10 June 1974 vol 874 c472W
Mr. Jim Callaghan

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) what provision is made for those prisoners of the Jewish faith in the Styal Prison to obtain diets conforming to Jewish religious laws;

(2) what provision is made for those prisoners of the Jewish faith in the Styal Prison to observe their religious obligations.

Dr. Summerskill

At Styal, as at other prison service establishments, practising members of the Jewish faith have the opportunity to receive special diets and are allowed to observe the main Jewish religious festivals. They are exempt from work during these festivals and on all Saturdays. I am writing to my hon. Friend about these arrangements and about the particular case which he has drawn to my attention.
