HC Deb 10 June 1974 vol 874 cc484-5W
Dr. Winstanley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will list the organisations and interests she intends to consult before publishing her promised White Paper on pensions.

Mr. O'Malley

Such consultation and discussion will be based upon the White Paper which the Government intend to publish as soon as possible. This is seen as the quickest way to make progress in the establishment of better pensions provision.

Dr. Winstanley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if she will ensure that the costs of any new proposals as assessed by the Government Actuary are included in her promised White Paper on pensions.

Mr. O'Malley

Yes.

Mr. Silvester

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what would be the cost of increasing the retirement pension for a couple by 33p a week, with a proportionate increase for the single pensioner; and what would be the cost if other social security benefits were also increased in proportion.

Mr. Robert C. Brown

About £75 million and about £120 million, respectively, a year.
