§ 45. Mr. Fauldsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he is now able to state Her Majesty's Government's policy on the supply of heavy armaments to countries involved in the Middle East War of 1973, in particular the request from the Government of Israel for the supply of Chieftain and Centurion tanks.
§ Mr. EnnalsOur overriding objective in the Middle East is a just and lasting settlement of the dispute between the Arabs and Israel. We are willing to consider requests from Middle East countries for arms the supply of which in our view would not endanger the achievement of such a solution in the light of our judgment of the long-term policies of the State in question.
