asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many consultants there are in the hospital service.

At 30th September 1973, there were in England and Wales 10,796 consultants, including 1,063 with honorary contracts; the corresponding whole-time equivalent figures were 9,496 and 536 respectively. The corresponding figure for 1972 were 10,304, including 986 honorary, and 8,992, including 488 honorary.
