§ Dr. OwenAt 30th September 1973, there were in England and Wales 10,796 consultants, including 1,063 with honorary contracts; the corresponding whole-time equivalent figures were 9,496 and 536 respectively. The corresponding figure for 1972 were 10,304, including 986 honorary, and 8,992, including 488 honorary.
