HC Deb 10 June 1974 vol 874 cc455-6W
Mr. Buck

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will publish figures for the most recently available six-months period of catches of hake landed in Great Britain and the figures for landings in the two preceding six-months periods; and if he will consider taking steps to help conserve stocks of this variety of fish.

Mr. Buchan

The figures for landings in Great Britain are as follows:

LANDING OF HAKE IN GREAT BRITAIN JULY 1972—DECEMBER 1973
July-December 1972 January-June 1973 July-December 1973
(cwts.) (cwts.) (cwts.)
26,035 24,747 19,847

So far as conservation is concerned, our scientists are involved in international research into the biology of the hake, and the Government would support the establishment of international conservation measures through the North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission on the basis of scientific advice.
