HC Deb 30 July 1974 vol 878 c121W
Mr. Woof

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the current waiting list for entry into Government training centres in the Northern Region; how many persons are at present undertaking courses; and how many have been unable to be accepted for training or retraining.

Mr. Harold Walker

I am advised by the Manpower Services Commission that on 15th July 1974 the waiting list for entry into skillcentres—formerly Government training centres—in the Training Service Agency's North-East Region was 1,756. Three hundred and fifty-six of those had been allocated to skillcentres and were due to start training within three weeks. On the same date 1,712 people were in training in skillcentres in the North-East Region.

No applications from suitable candidates are rejected if immediate allocation to training cannot be arranged. In these circumstances names are added to the waiting list.
