HC Deb 30 July 1974 vol 878 c187W
Sir A. Meyer

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what will be the average reduction of the current annual rate bill of the domestic ratepayer in Wales as a result of the measures announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 22nd July.

Mr. John Morris

The estimated average reduction of the current rate bill of the domestic ratepayer in the districts of Wales varies between £11.05 and nil. It must be remembered that this is in addition to the extra £16 million in domestic rate relief for Wales announced by the Government in March.

Sir Raymond Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what will be the average reduction in the current annual rate bill of domestic ratepayers in South Glamorgan as a result of the measures announced by the Chancellor on 22nd July.

Mr. John Morris

Under the new scheme relief is granted to domestic ratepayers whose total rate bills, including water and sewerage charges, for 1974–75 will be increased by more than 20 per cent. compared with 1973–74. As a result of the domestic rate relief announced by the Government in March the average total rate bills for 1974–75 for Cardiff are 16.78 per cent. less than the 1973–74 bills, and in the Vale of Glamorgan 13.79 per cent. less. There can therefore be no further reduction as a result of the measures announced by the Chancellor on 22nd July.
