HC Deb 30 July 1974 vol 878 c190W
Sir Raymond Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what plans he has for speeding up the consideration of planning appeals in the Principality.

Mr. John Morris

The number of inspectors who hold planning inquiries in England and Wales has been increased by over 60 per cent. The staff of the Welsh Office dealing with appeals has also been strengthened. In suitable cases I intend to arrange for a number of inquiries in an area to be held in a single session in order to make the best use of available staff. I am also encouraging a greater use of the written representations procedure which can save time. I shall give careful attention to any recommendations in the report of the Review of the Development Control System which is expected from Mr. George Dobry, QC, at the end of this year.
